The Colorado high school football state championship games for Class 4A and 5A will take place at Canvas Stadium on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins for the upcoming five seasons.
Though CHSAA has not officially announced the news, they have scheduled a press conference at the stadium for Thursday, April 6, at 11 a.m. Sources familiar with the situation have confirmed the relocation to the Coloradoan.
For 18 years, the upper-class championship football games have taken place at Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High, except for the 2020 COVID-impacted season. However, starting from 2023, these games will return to a college venue. Colorado 4A and 5A Football Championships.
The Class 3A championship game will continue to be held at the ThunderBowl in Pueblo for this season, as the contract remains in effect through 2023.
The location for future 3A championship games is currently uncertain, but Canvas Stadium is a potential contender, according to sources from the Coloradoan.
Since 2018, Pueblo has hosted the 2A and 3A championship games, and from 2020, it has also accommodated the 1A, 8-man, and 6-man title games. Colorado 4A and 5A Football Championships.
The 2023 4A and 5A football championship games are scheduled for Saturday, December 2, but a scheduling conflict may arise.
In case Colorado State hosts a Mountain West Championship Game in football, it could potentially coincide with the same Saturday.
Sources familiar with the matter suggest that if necessary, the high school championship games might be rescheduled to Sunday, December 3.
Canvas Stadium will not only host high school football championships, but also annual regular-season rivalry games between Fort Collins-area teams through 2025, as recently announced by Canvas Credit Union and Poudre School District.
