Epic High School Football Showdown: Corona Centennial vs. Bishop Gorman

According to a tweet by Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times on Thursday, there has been a scheduling update.

Get ready for an exciting game on September 8th as two of the top high school football programs from the west, Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), go head-to-head! Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times shared the news of this highly anticipated matchup on Thursday via Twitter.

Bishop Gorman had a victorious season last fall, finishing 14-1 and ranked No. 4 nationally in the MaxPreps Top 25, which resulted in them capturing Nevada’s Class 5A state championship. The Gaels have an impressive 19 state titles in program history, with 13 of those being won since 2007. They’re expected to be a dominant force once again in 2023, led by their All-American quarterback Micah Alejado.

Centennial has consistently been a strong contender in California’s Southern Section, and they’re looking to continue their success after an impressive 9-2 campaign. Over the past ten years, the Huskies have participated in the CIF Open Division state championship game three times. Keep an eye out for running back Cornell Hatcher Jr. and transfer quarterback Husan Longstreet, as they’re expected to be two key players for the team under the guidance of longtime head coach Matt Logan.

These two programs faced off previously in 2014, with Bishop Gorman emerging victorious with a nail-biting 43-42 win. This victory paved the way for their unbeaten season and impressive No. 2 national ranking.
