Geneva High School Football Coach Dies unexpectedly

The Geneva school community is in mourning over the loss of their beloved varsity football coach, Larry Guererri, who passed away unexpectedly. The news of his sudden death on Thursday night at the age of 51 has left everyone in shock.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Coach Larry Guererri, who was a beloved member of our community and head coach of our high school football team. Coach Guererri was a seasoned coach with a long history of leading teams in Geneva and the Finger Lakes region. His loss is a great tragedy and he will be greatly missed by all.

“He was also a parent and grandparent of students in the district, as well as a well-known and much-loved community member. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”

Mr. Guererri was a dedicated football coach in Geneva for the past two years. Under his leadership, the Panthers improved from a winless season in 2021 to a 4-5 record last season, starting strong with three victories. His son, Konnor, was a proud member of the football team as a junior last fall.

Aside from his work with the youth football program in Geneva, Coach Guererri was also the head coach of the Five Lake Hawks, a semi-pro football team based in Penn Yan, which is no longer in operation. He also had a successful career as the head football coach at DeSales Catholic High School in Geneva, until the school’s closure in 2012.

In light of this sad news, the Geneva CSD has arranged for its Trauma, Illness and Grief Team to support students and staff. Further information about services will be provided soon.
